What is Dreamscene?

Dreamscene is an additional features from Microsoft for Windows Vista Ultimate. It gives you the ability to select a video for your desktop background the same way you select a stationary picture. You can choose one of the high-quality looping videos that is included, or use a video from a company that produces content for DreamScene. You can even use your own video as a background. What’s more, it supposes to run without much cpu usage but from my experience, it’s far from reality.;P

Dreamscenes are encoded using mpeg and wmv. There are agreeable amount of people saying mpeg is less cpu-consuming than wmv. Some Dreamscenes are encoded using additional plugin from Stardocks.

You can download the plugin here.

  6. Are these files also editable as video files? E.g.: Can they be opened by a video player in Linux or can they be edited in a video editing program? (for home use)
    Nice work nevertheless!

  7. once you clicked to play, the program will extract the video part and put it into a folder.

    it’s somewhere in c>programdata>stardock>extracteddata

i dont remember it by heart but the path is something like that.

  8. You’re almost right.

    They’re stored in C:\programdata\stardock\deskscapes\extracteddata\

Then simply look for the folder containing the name of the dream you want the video for. :)
